MFA Setup Guide

MFA Setup Guide

Please follow the steps in the guide to setup MFA (Multi Factor Authentication) on your school ICT account. This is required to allow staff to reset their own password offsite and to secure access to sensitive school systems.

1. Once MFA has been activated on your account you’ll be prompted on your next login to add more information to your account. Click on ‘Next’,

2. You will then be prompted to download the Microsoft Authenticator app on your mobile phone. Browse your app store and download/install the Microsoft Authenticator app.

Once installed, click on Next on your computer.

Note: If you do not have a smart phone, choose the option “I want to set up a different method’ and choose an alternative method such as answering Security Questions.

3. On your mobile phone, open ‘Microsoft Authenticator’ click on ‘Add account’ or press the ‘+’ in the top right corner then ‘Add account’ – If prompted to allow notification, tab allow.

4. Tap on ‘Work or school account’ then ‘Scan a QR Code’ - If prompted to allow camera access, tab allow.

5. Click on ‘Next’ on your computer to bring up the QR code. Hold your mobile phone up to your computer screen and move the phone to capture the QR code. Once the QR code has been recognised, click on Next.

6. You will now come to the ‘Let’s try it out’ page. This will send a notification to your phone for you to approve. Approve this notification from the Microsoft Authenticator App.

7. If successful, the notification will have been approved. Click on ‘Next’

8. You will now be directed to the page to add your mobile phone number. In order to reset passwords, you’ll need more than 1 method setup. Change the country to United Kingdom and enter your mobile number then click ‘Next’

9. Check your phone for the text code then enter this into the next screen.

10. Complete! SMS code has been verified and you have now setup MFA. You will need to approve logins using either one of these methods whilst off the school network and when accessing certain systems on the school network.

In order to reset your password remotely, you can use these methods to confirm your identity.
